Instructions

How to Use the Annual Petrol Calculator

  1. Enter a representative daily distance and choose kilometres or miles.
  2. Select a vehicle and enter measured fuel efficiency in km/L, L/100 km, US MPG or Imperial MPG.
  3. Enter the petrol price in the matching litre or gallon unit and select a currency.
  4. Review daily fuel use, the 365-day annual projection, cost per distance and shorter budget periods.
  5. Adjust the annual result to your actual driving days with the formula below.

The calculator uses your inputs in the browser. It does not fetch live pump prices or exchange rates.

Formula

Annual Petrol Cost Formula

Annual distance = daily distance x travel days

Fuel required = annual distance / km per litre

Annual petrol cost = fuel required x price per litre

Cost per km = annual cost / annual distance

For L/100 km: litres required = kilometres x L/100 km / 100. For MPG: gallons required = miles / MPG. One mile equals 1.609344 kilometres; one US gallon equals 3.785411784 litres; one Imperial gallon equals 4.54609 litres. Calculations retain full precision before display rounding.

Worked example

Example Yearly Petrol Budget

Suppose a car travels 40 km on 240 days per year, returns 12 km/L and petrol costs PKR 280 per litre.

Annual distance = 40 x 240 = 9,600 km

Fuel required = 9,600 / 12 = 800 litres

Annual petrol cost = 800 x 280 = PKR 224,000

Average monthly allowance = 224,000 / 12 = PKR 18,666.67

Cost per kilometre = 224,000 / 9,600 = PKR 23.33/km

This is an illustrative fuel-only estimate. Actual distance, mileage and prices can change during the year.

Travel calendar

Translate 365 Days Into Your Actual Driving Year

The shared calculator shows a 365-day projection based on the daily distance entered. If you expect to drive that pattern on fewer days, use adjusted annual result = displayed annual result / 365 x actual travel days.

Count commute days after weekends, annual leave, public holidays and work-from-home days. Estimate regular weekend travel separately if its distance differs. Add planned long journeys with the trip petrol calculator instead of spreading them across every day.

Planning scenarios

Compare Price, Mileage and Seasonal Scenarios

Petrol-price range

Recalculate with a lower, current and higher price chosen by you. The difference shows budget sensitivity; it is not a fuel-price forecast.

Real fuel efficiency

Use mileage measured across several refills. Traffic, idling, short cold-engine journeys, speed, hills, tyre pressure, load, towing, air conditioning and maintenance can change consumption.

Seasonal travel

If travel changes across the year, calculate separate periods - for example, school-term commuting, holiday travel or a winter route - and add their results. Avoid applying one unusually busy month to all twelve months.

Practical budget review

Compare estimates with odometer readings and receipts during the year. Update distance, mileage or price when evidence changes. Smooth driving, sensible route planning, correct tyre pressure and removing unnecessary load may reduce avoidable consumption, but no fixed saving is guaranteed.

Scope

Limitations, Assumptions and Cannibalization

The estimate assumes entered distance, efficiency and price are representative. It cannot predict traffic, weather, detours, mechanical condition, fuel quality, odometer error or future prices. Currency is a result label, not an exchange conversion.

This page targets annual petrol expense and yearly fuel-budget planning. Use the daily commute calculator for a workday journey, the monthly calculator for one month, and the trip tool for a specific journey. It does not estimate total vehicle ownership cost.
