Instructions
How to Use the Commercial Driver Calculator
- Enter every kilometre driven in a typical workday, including pickup and repositioning travel.
- Enter real petrol mileage measured in km/L and the price per litre.
- Enter realistic operating days for the month.
- Optionally enter paid distance and gross daily revenue for operational ratios.
- Review fuel per day, daily and monthly cost, and cost-per-distance results.
Use consistent currency for petrol price and revenue. No account or live price feed is required.
Formula
Taxi and Commercial Petrol Cost Formula
Daily litres = total daily km / km per litre
Daily petrol cost = daily litres x price per litre
Monthly petrol cost = daily petrol cost x workdays
Fuel cost per paid km = daily petrol cost / paid km
Fuel share of revenue (%) = daily petrol cost / gross daily revenue x 100
Paid-kilometre cost and fuel share are operational fuel metrics, not prices, fares, profit, or earnings forecasts.
Worked example
Commercial Driver Fuel-Cost Example
Suppose a petrol taxi travels 180 km per day, returns 10 km/L, petrol costs PKR 280/L, and it operates 26 days. If 120 km is paid travel and gross daily revenue is PKR 8,000:
Daily fuel = 180 / 10 = 18 L
Daily petrol cost = 18 x 280 = PKR 5,040
Monthly petrol cost = 5,040 x 26 = PKR 131,040
Fuel cost per total km = 5,040 / 180 = PKR 28
Fuel cost per paid km = 5,040 / 120 = PKR 42
Fuel share of gross revenue = 5,040 / 8,000 x 100 = 63%
The 63% figure is not a profit margin. All non-fuel expenses remain unaccounted for.
Commercial operation
Total Distance, Paid Distance, and Empty Running
Total daily distance is the odometer distance attributable to the workday. Paid distance is only the chargeable portion. The difference may include driving to a pickup, searching for passengers, returning to a rank, repositioning, or other unpaid movement.
Track both values from actual records. Reducing unnecessary empty running can lower fuel consumed per paid kilometre, but this calculator does not promise savings or recommend fares.
Real-world mileage
Traffic, Idling, Load, and Vehicle Condition
Commercial vehicles often operate in congestion, idle between jobs, carry changing passenger or cargo loads, and use air conditioning for long periods. Speed, hills, tyre pressure, engine condition, short trips, fuel quality, and driving style also influence consumption.
Measure mileage across several full-tank cycles under similar working conditions. A highway rating or manufacturer figure can understate the fuel used during stop-and-go taxi operation.
Scope
Limitations and Search-Intent Boundaries
This fuel-only estimate assumes inputs remain constant. It excludes maintenance, repairs, tyres, insurance, registration, licensing, permits, platform commission, dispatch fees, tolls, parking, finance, depreciation, tax, wages, and driver time.
This page serves general taxi and commercial drivers. It does not model ride-hailing platform commissions or incentives like an Uber/Careem calculator, and it does not model delivery orders or per-drop costs like a delivery rider calculator. Use the monthly petrol calculator for a household budget or the cost-per-km calculator for general journey fuel cost.
