The formula

Bike petrol cost formula.

For km/L, fuel required equals total distance divided by mileage. Total cost equals fuel required multiplied by petrol price. Cost per kilometre equals total cost divided by total distance. Return trips double a one-way distance.

Worked bike petrol cost example

Suppose a one-way ride is 25 km, the trip is a return journey, the motorcycle averages 40 km/L, and petrol costs PKR 280 per litre. Total distance = 25 × 2 = 50 km. Fuel required = 50 ÷ 40 = 1.25 litres. Total cost = 1.25 × 280 = PKR 350. Cost per kilometre = 350 ÷ 50 = PKR 7. This is an estimate; actual consumption may differ.

What affects motorcycle fuel consumption?

Real bike mileage changes with engine size and tune, riding speed, rapid acceleration, braking, stop-and-go traffic, idling, road gradient, wind, weather and trip length. Tyre pressure, air-filter and spark-plug condition, fuel quality, maintenance, luggage and a passenger can also affect fuel use. Measure several normal tank refills instead of assuming one advertised figure fits every journey.

One-way and return-trip petrol cost

If you enter a one-way route and select return trip, the calculator doubles the distance before computing petrol required. If your distance already includes the outward and return legs, keep one way selected to avoid doubling it twice. For repeated journeys, calculate the complete route first and multiply by the actual number of trips.

km/L and L/100 km

Higher km/L means better efficiency; lower L/100 km means better efficiency. They describe the same consumption in opposite ways: L/100 km = 100 ÷ km/L, and km/L = 100 ÷ L/100 km. A motorcycle returning 40 km/L therefore uses 2.5 L/100 km.

US MPG and Imperial MPG

US and Imperial gallons have different volumes. One US gallon is 3.785411784 litres; one Imperial gallon is 4.54609 litres. Imperial MPG is numerically higher than US MPG for the same efficiency, so select the correct system and ensure the petrol-price volume unit matches or is converted.

Estimate a monthly motorcycle fuel budget

Multiply daily distance by the number of travel days to get monthly distance. For km/L, divide monthly distance by measured mileage to estimate litres, then multiply by the petrol price. Use actual travel days rather than assuming every month has the same riding pattern.

Reduce bike petrol expense

Maintain the manufacturer-recommended tyre pressure, accelerate smoothly, avoid unnecessary idling, service the engine on schedule, keep the air filter in good condition and check for leaks. Remove unnecessary luggage, combine short errands, use a steady speed where safe, plan around heavy traffic and track mileage over several refills. No single saving applies equally to every motorcycle.

Limitations and assumptions

The estimate assumes the entered distance, fuel efficiency, petrol price and units are correct and remain constant. It does not automatically model traffic delays, hills, wind, long idling, passenger or luggage weight, engine condition, tyre pressure, fuel quality, odometer error or future price changes. Currency is a calculation and display label; the tool does not fetch fuel prices or exchange rates.
