Instructions
How to Use the Truck Petrol Calculator
- Enter the one-way distance and select kilometres or miles.
- Enter mileage measured for your truck or SUV and choose km/L, L/100 km, US MPG, or Imperial MPG.
- Enter the local petrol price with the matching litre or gallon unit and currency.
- Select one way or return, then review total distance, fuel required, total petrol cost, and cost per distance unit.
For a loaded pickup or towing trip, use fuel efficiency recorded under similar conditions. Vehicle type does not justify a universal load adjustment, so the calculator uses the value you provide.
The math
Truck and SUV Petrol Cost Formula
Fuel required = total distance ÷ real mileage
Petrol cost = fuel required × petrol price
Cost per km = total cost ÷ total distance
Return distance = one-way distance × 2
With L/100 km, fuel required = distance in kilometres × L/100 km ÷ 100. With MPG, fuel required = distance in miles ÷ MPG in the matching gallon type. Calculations retain full precision before results are rounded for display.
Example
Worked Truck Fuel-Cost Example
Illustrative inputs: 150 km one way, return trip, 8 km/L, PKR 280 per litre.
Total distance = 150 × 2 = 300 km
Fuel required = 300 ÷ 8 = 37.5 litres
Total petrol cost = 37.5 × 280 = PKR 10,500
Cost per kilometre = 10,500 ÷ 300 = PKR 35/km
The 8 km/L input is an example, not a claim for a particular truck. Replace it with a refill-based average for your engine, drivetrain, load, route, and driving conditions.

Illustrative Truck and SUV Mileage Inputs
These broad examples help explain inputs; they are not manufacturer ratings or promised consumption. Measure litres added and distance travelled over several comparable refills.
| Truck or SUV | Mileage (km/L) | Daily cost · 10 km @ ₨ 280/L |
|---|---|---|
| Toyota Fortuner | 8–10 | ₨ 311 |
| Toyota Hilux | 9–12 | ₨ 267 |
| Honda BR-V | 12–14 | ₨ 215 |
Daily cost assumes a 10 km commute at ₨ 280/L. Override either in the calculator above for your actual numbers.
Operating conditions
What Affects Truck and SUV Fuel Consumption?
Payload, towing weight, trailer shape, roof racks, four-wheel-drive use, engine size, transmission, tyre choice, tyre pressure, speed, acceleration, idling, traffic, hills, wind, and temperature can all alter consumption. Maintenance, wheel alignment, air filters, fuel quality, and route length also matter.
Loaded vs Unloaded Travel
Extra mass usually requires more energy during acceleration and climbing, while a trailer can add substantial aerodynamic drag. The effect is not a reliable fixed percentage. Record separate loaded, towing, city, and highway averages when those journeys differ materially.
One-Way vs Return Journeys
Select return only when the entered distance covers one direction. Outbound and return efficiency may differ because of cargo delivery, elevation, wind, or traffic; for greater accuracy, calculate each leg separately with its relevant mileage.
km/L, L/100 km, and MPG
Convert km/L and L/100 km with L/100 km = 100 ÷ km/L. One mile equals 1.609344 kilometres. One US gallon equals 3.785411784 litres and one Imperial gallon equals 4.54609 litres, so always identify which MPG system your record uses.
Budgeting
Estimate Monthly Truck Petrol Expense
Combine routine distance for workdays, deliveries, site visits, or family travel. Monthly fuel = monthly distance ÷ representative mileage; monthly petrol expense = fuel × price. Keep separate scenarios for unloaded use, cargo, towing, city traffic, and highway travel when their efficiencies differ.
Petrol is only one operating expense. A commercial or ownership budget may also need maintenance, tyres, tolls, parking, registration, insurance, depreciation, financing, and driver time.
Practical steps
How to Manage Truck and SUV Petrol Cost
- Track odometer distance and litres added across several comparable refills.
- Maintain specified tyre pressure, alignment, filters, oil, and service intervals.
- Remove unnecessary cargo or exterior accessories when they are not needed.
- Use smooth acceleration, an appropriate safe speed, and reduce avoidable idling.
- Plan routes and consolidate journeys where practical.
Results vary by vehicle and conditions. These actions may improve efficiency, but no fixed saving is guaranteed.
Scope
Limitations, Assumptions, and Search Intent
The calculator assumes the entered distance, efficiency, price, units, and trip type are correct and stable. It does not fetch live prices, convert currencies, or automatically adjust for payload, towing, terrain, congestion, weather, mechanical condition, or fuel-price changes.
This page is specifically for petrol-powered trucks, pickups, 4x4s, and SUVs. Use the car calculator for cars and the trip calculator for vehicle-neutral journey planning. Diesel, CNG, EV charging, fleet management, and total ownership comparisons are outside this calculator's scope.
