Formula and example
For km/L, divide total distance by mileage to find litres, then multiply litres by petrol price. A return journey first doubles the entered one-way distance. Calculations retain full precision before results are rounded for display.
Petrol cost formula
Cost = (Distance ÷ Mileage) × Price
For example, suppose a one-way drive is 25 km, the trip is a return journey, and the car averages 14 km/L. The total distance is 50 km and the car requires about 3.57 litres. Multiply 3.57 by your local petrol price to get the trip cost.
