How to Use the Cost per Km Calculator

  1. Enter real fuel efficiency and select km/L or L/100 km.
  2. Enter the current petrol price per litre in your currency.
  3. Optionally enter a journey distance in kilometres.
  4. Review fuel cost per km, cost per 100 km, fuel per km, and trip cost.

Currency is a label: no exchange-rate conversion occurs. For a representative result, use consumption measured under driving conditions similar to the planned route.

Fuel Cost per Kilometre Formulas

Cost/km = price per litre ÷ km/L
Litres/km = 1 ÷ km/L
Cost/km = (L/100 km ÷ 100) × price/litre
Trip cost = cost/km × trip distance

Higher km/L means better efficiency; lower L/100 km means better efficiency. Convert between them with L/100 km = 100 ÷ km/L.

Worked Cost-per-Kilometre Example

Inputs: 12.5 km/L, PKR 280 per litre, 150 km.

Fuel per km = 1 ÷ 12.5 = 0.08 L

Cost per km = 280 ÷ 12.5 = PKR 22.40

Cost per 100 km = 22.40 × 100 = PKR 2,240

Trip cost = 22.40 × 150 = PKR 3,360

Mileage Units and Useful Conversions

km/L and L/100 km

km/L describes distance travelled on one litre. L/100 km describes litres consumed across 100 kilometres. A reading of 12.5 km/L equals 8 L/100 km.

MPG to km/L

Multiply US MPG by 0.425144 or Imperial MPG by 0.354006. One US gallon is 3.785411784 litres, one Imperial gallon is 4.54609 litres, and one mile is 1.609344 kilometres. Do not treat US and Imperial MPG as identical.

What Changes Fuel Cost per Km?

Fuel price

A price rise changes cost per km even if consumption remains unchanged.

Traffic and route

Idling, stop-start traffic, hills, rough roads, wind, and short journeys can increase consumption.

Vehicle and load

Tyre pressure, maintenance, engine condition, passengers, cargo, roof racks, and towing affect efficiency.

Driving behaviour

High speeds, harsh acceleration, heavy braking, and unnecessary idling can use more fuel.

This fuel cost calculator assumes the entered mileage and petrol price apply across the distance. It does not predict live fuel prices or automatically adjust for route conditions, measurement error, price changes, or fuel quality. Results are estimates, not invoices or reimbursement rates.
